Happy New Year. I haven't actually been there, but an acquaintance told me about eating cauliflower while the owner kindly offered to watch the pot as it cooked. That was very considerate of him. It says a lot about their service that someone would take such an interest in a pot of cabbage. If they care that much about vegetables, who knows how they look after guests? Five moral stars, at least. I'd happily give them a communion wafer salad, and I don't care, but I'm grateful for the attention.

We only meant to stay two nights after finding this hostel by chance while passing through Peñíscola, but my partner and I ended up spending four there. The mother and daughter who run it were wonderful, always welcoming us with a smile and making us feel at home right away. The place was clean, cozy, and clearly cared for, with all the little details looked after. It was lovely to feel that personal touch after days at the beach and sightseeing. We have so much to thank them for and would recommend it to anyone wanting a charming place with genuine people. We’ll be back, maybe over the holidays! And the Vesuvio sandwich is the best.

I won't be going back, and I can't recommend the place. On our last morning, they said the kitchen was closed and refused our toast order because only two people were working at the bar. We sat down with ensaimadas, but while we waited for coffee, we saw the cook come out to speak with a waitress, then another waitress bring our coffees. A group of three arrived, ordered wine and soda, then placed a lunch order directly with the cook, who went back into the kitchen. The service had also been very rude when we arrived.
