Hotel Muva Beach

The location is the one good thing here. The food was okay, but the value for the price was really poor. I don't mind paying more when the food is good and there's a decent amount, but this was ridiculous. They brought me one forkful of steak to cook on a hot plate almost as big as the table, then asked if I wanted fries or peppers and charged extra for them. My wife ordered turbot and got nothing alongside it, not even a potato or a lettuce leaf. One of the worst restaurant experiences I've had. I wish I'd taken a photo.

We started with a window table and a great view, but things went downhill fast. I asked for a G+T before the wine and was told I'd have to go downstairs to the bar, so we dropped it. The staff took our order promptly, but without a smile, and were dressed as if they were about to sign on for unemployment benefits. The meat and cheese croquettes and the potato and egg mush arrived cold. Then we had to cook our own steak on a griddle. The setting and location are perfect, but the service let them down through sheer incompetence.

The hotel itself is great, but I wouldn't return to the restaurant. Staff were rude, and three menu items weren't available. Our steak arrived, but the hot stone took another ten minutes to come out, even after we asked two waiters. We also had to get up from the table to order a beer.

We spent a weekend in one of the rooms with a fantastic sea view, watching the colors of the rising sun early in the morning. Dinner at the round bar downstairs was lovely, everything we tried was tasty, and we could watch the chef cook in front of us. The staff were kind and helpful. Later we went down one more floor to the club, Entre dos Aguas, for the house gin and tonic with fresh fruit in the ice. We enjoyed the music and being so close to the sea. It's a fantastic spot for the last hours of afternoon sun. Don't miss it in PEÑÍSCOLA, right at the bottom of the castle.
