Posada Real Quinta San José

The hotel is quite nice, and the restaurant is huge with delicious meat. But the breakfast was a hard no for me: the juice was super cheap, the coffee was awful, and there wasn’t a proper keto option, just cheap sugary cakes. It’s a shame they used COVID as a reason to close the spa, especially since I go to the spa every day and live in Madrid.

We only ate there, so I can’t rate the rooms. There were six of us for Christmas Day, and the €25 set menu included water and wine. The suckling pig was delicious, with lots of choice on the menu. The restaurant is beautiful, classic in style, and very clean with lovely attention to detail. The waiters and other staff were professional and friendly. Carlos, an extra waiter that day, deserves a special mention: he was a real professional and gave excellent service. We’ll definitely be back. Thanks for making our Christmas Day so special. Our young server was attentive and friendly, but the meal was a mixed bag. The braised pork cheeks were very good and the steak was fine. The scallops came cold, the salads were tiny, and the suckling pig was ice cold and dry. The potatoes in every dish were cold too. We visited on Good Friday and ordered five €25 set menus. When we arrived, a waitress upstairs seemed rather dismissive to us and sent us to another room. Downstairs was packed because of a birthday party, with only three or four waiters trying to cover the whole room and clearly overwhelmed. The restaurant should add gluten-free options. Staff didn’t know which dishes contained gluten, and we weren’t told whether the potatoes had been fried in oil previously used for breaded food. There was no gluten-free bread, and they didn’t give us a menu with allergy information. There wasn’t enough information for customers.

The people who served us were the best part. They were overwhelmed, but always kind, especially Susana. The room was perfect, though the space itself was run-down. We followed the booking instructions and arrived at 12:30. Check-in was listed as 11:30 to 13:30, with a day’s notice required if arriving later. The estimated wait was either two hours or twenty minutes, but we actually waited an hour and a half. We wanted to eat at the hotel restaurant, made a reservation, and were told we could come from 14:30 onwards. They sent us between two dining rooms before we finally got a table at 15:45. By then there were no other food options unless we waited another 40 minutes. We ordered a salad and patatas revolconas with octopus. Very tasty, but very late. The service was insane.
