The bed was big and comfortable, and the employees were reasonably friendly, but this was expensive for the lack of comfort and luxury. Our room felt like a bunker, with tiny windows and no chairs outside. The road is very close, and noise woke us at 7. There was no internet. Tap water was warm but not enough to fill a bathtub, and there was no bath plug. The hotel had no lounge to hang out in or bar by a fireplace, which is common in that area and would suit a winter mountain stay. The restaurant only opens at set hours. The meat looked good, but the vegetarian wok portion I ordered was ridiculously small. Beyond disappointing.
We stayed two nights in a superior room and had a great time. The views from the room and the surrounding mountains were stunning. Breakfast had a nice variety, especially tasty bread and pastries, and the kitchen staff were pleasant and attentive. One thing to know if you arrive on foot from the train station: part of the 10-15 minute walk is along a road with no sidewalk. We hadn’t expected that and couldn’t find another route, so we walked it at night. Arriving by car looked very comfortable.
We brought our dog, and he was made just as welcome as we were. The beds were super comfortable, and the little rooms were sweet. The hotel is a gorgeous Masia with mountain views, and dinner in the restaurant was sublime. The wine was made less than 30 meters away, which made for an amazing experience. Borga and his Dad were wonderful hosts. We can’t wait to return.
Hotel Cruell was a lovely independent, family-run hotel, and we enjoyed both the restaurant and the breakfast included in the price. We stayed two nights as part of a 12 day Pyrenean cycling tour. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes supporting independent places.
