THB Tropical Island Hotel

A great hotel for children, with a good kids’ club and a free disco followed by entertainment for adults. The smaller pools were heated, but the splash park and slide pools were cold in April. The food was good with lots to choose from, and upgrading to half board plus was worth it. There’s an Aldi 50 metres away if you want to self-cater. The walk to the beach and souvenir shops is reasonable, and a shuttle bus goes to the beach daily. Get a card for the back gate for 10 euros, refundable, to make it easier to reach the beach and other places.

The staff were welcoming and friendly, and the cleaners were lovely. Our spotless accommodation was a one-bedroom interlinked apartment. We chose self-catering because we planned to eat out, so it suited us perfectly. The pool at the bottom of our apartment was heated. For my birthday, the staff left a card and bottle of wine in the room. It was a lovely surprise, and I appreciated the thoughtful gesture. It was my first visit to Lanzarote, and I had a great stay. I’d come back, thank you.

Breakfast was excellent and set us up well for the day. There’s an outdoor bar by the pool and an indoor sports bar in the evening. The grounds and room layout cover a large area, with a pool for each cluster of rooms as well as the big main pool. Staff and management were helpful and considerate. I had a bottle of cava in our room for my birthday, and we received a handwritten thank-you letter for leaving a review. It’s a very good resort hotel, about a five-euro taxi ride from town, and taxis are easy to find.

It’s nice for kids, but not all the water playgrounds were open, and the pools were very cold, with no heating. The air conditioner in our room warmed the air instead of cooling it, so it was difficult to sleep at night. We couldn’t open the windows because of mosquitoes. We weren’t allowed to check out an hour later. A six-year-old girl got stuck in the public poolside toilet when the old door handle jammed. It wasn’t locked; the handle simply wouldn’t open. We waited more than 30 minutes to get her out. For the price we paid, I think it’s a nice hotel, but it’s very old and needs renovation. The kids’ animation was poor and repeated every day. It was meant to last an hour but only ran for 20-30 minutes. The cocktails were too sweet to drink because of the syrup they call juice.
