Aparthotel Duva & Spa

We’ve stayed here twice already and would come back. The hotel is good value, and the apartments are larger than expected, well equipped with everything you need, and perfectly fine despite needing a refresh in places. The staff are friendly and mostly speak very good English. We had bikes, so the location suited us, though it’s less ideal if you want to spend all day beside the beach. It’s away from the town centre, which makes it quiet, and there’s a free bus to the beach from June to September. All three outdoor pools and their areas were clean and well kept, with lots of sunbeds. Breakfast and dinner are buffet style, with an amazing range of choices, and can be bought day by day. There’s also an underground garage for bikes, plus a spa and gym if you want to use them.

The three pools were lovely, we never had trouble finding sunbeds, and the spotless grounds had no litter that I ever saw. The staff were so accommodating, and Luciano worked incredibly hard with the children. My son adored him. He puts in long days six days a week and even comes in for a chat on his day off. We had a ten-day half-board stay at Duva Aparthotel as a family of four, with children aged 6 and 10, and couldn’t have been happier. Our airport car hire took over an hour, so we arrived later than planned and missed dinner, but the hotel had kindly plated some food and left it waiting in the restaurant. The food was lovely throughout. There was always fresh meat and fish being cooked, and the other dishes were tasty too. Sunday paella was my favourite. Breakfast had everything for a full English, if that’s your thing, plus plenty of cereal, meats, cheeses, omelettes, American pancakes, waffles, fresh fruit and pastries. We had a one-bedroom comfort apartment on the ground floor overlooking the main pool, as requested. The kids slept on the living-room sofa bed, which was fine for us. The kitchen had an electric hob, microwave and fridge with a small freezer compartment, and the air conditioning worked very well. Don’t be put off by the location. It’s a lovely 10-15 minute walk to the beach and promenade, and reception showed us a pleasant back route that avoids the main road. Puerto Pollensa and Pollensa village are beautiful and worth visiting. We even climbed the steps to the little church, and the view from the top was worth it. Luciano, who runs the children’s entertainment and adult activities, was a real credit to the hotel. The children adored him, and he knew all their names. He entertained them from lunchtime onwards and took us on a walking trip to Cala St Vincent, which we really enjoyed. Thanks, Luciano, you’re a star. The evening stroll into town after dinner was lovely, with some nice bars on the way, so don’t let the hotel’s location put you off. We’d absolutely return after a fabulous nine days at the Duva Hotel. On arrival, reception checked us in quickly, and our first impression was good. We were happy with a room in the main hotel complex, overlooking the mountains rather than the pool, which suited us better. We might have preferred one of the newer apartments across the road, but that didn’t affect our enjoyment. The room had a large lounge, a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, plenty of space and a nice bathroom. Lovely staff serviced it every day and worked very hard. The hotel staff were great throughout, and the dining-room team was efficient, led by a head waiter we came to like a lot. Thanks for a wonderful stay. Julie and Tony (uk).

The staff were kind and attentive, the rooms were bigger than at an average hotel, and the air conditioning was good. We did have a good time overall, but a lot of smaller problems added up, and we won’t return. The pool lifeguard seemed more interested in his phone. My daughter cut her foot on loose, sharp bolts holding the metal grates. He saw what happened but didn’t come to help, and although he said he’d report it to reception, nothing changed during the rest of our stay. I’m not sure he’d be able to save anyone. Another day, the pool toilet door handle fell off, which left us feeling that nobody cared about these things. At first we liked the food variety, but later felt the hotel was cutting corners. The desserts were very cheap, mostly jelly that nobody eats, and felt like a 50-cent dish. I never got a warm omelette, since they were cooked in advance and cold by the time they reached my plate. The meat was often so tough even adults couldn’t chew it. Much of the food smelled like tap water, which had a really bad odor that guests noticed. We came by car and had to drive over the ruined road several times a day. They should fix it. The trash bins on the way to the restaurant smelled too, and should be hidden. For high-season prices, it’s ridiculous to charge for the safe and ask for a 10-euro deposit for beach towels. They should just lend the towels and collect them at checkout. It felt greedy. And 3 euros for a rubber cup to enter the spa? Seriously? This hotel was average, not exciting, and no better than others.
