Hostal Rio Selmo

I felt ripped off, and after nearly universal good treatment at hotels along the route, this was an unhappy first. As a foreign pilgrim, I'd urge you to check the charge carefully before paying. I asked by phone for a single room, with an Argentinian friend helping because reception spoke no English. I'd checked Booking.com and saw single rooms available, but I wanted to support a small business and avoid the booking fee. My friend clearly explained that I needed a single room. When I arrived, I was charged for a double because they said the single rooms had run out. They had been showing as available on Booking.com at the time, and the woman on the phone hadn't mentioned a double room. I tried to explain that this felt dishonest because I had been promised a single, but they wouldn't refund me. I told the man at reception, who I assume was the owner, that it wasn't about the money, it was the principle. He could have offered the 7 euro difference as a goodwill gesture, but he stuck to his position.

Very good value, with clean rooms in a good location. I'd stay again without hesitation.

Friendly people, clean and roomy rooms, and a good price. It’s a basic place, nothing fancy.

Good value for the money, and everything was easy with clear communication.
