Give Pontevedra’s old town a morning, or longer if you can. The streets are great for spotting architectural details and taking photos, and there are plenty of lovely places to pause. I especially liked Plaza de la Herrería, the striking San Francisco Convent, and the peaceful Casto Sampedro Garden. The Sanctuary of the Pilgrim Virgin was being renovated when I visited, so I couldn’t see it properly. The Royal Basilica of Santa María la Mayor and the Ruins of Santo Domingo are also worth seeing. It’s about a 25-minute trip from Vigo, then a 15-minute walk from the train station to the pedestrian area. Don’t miss trying Galician food at one of the restaurants around Praza da Leña. Good shoes help, and it’s easy to leave the worries behind and enjoy the city. I’m sure there are places I’ve missed, which is a good reason to return.
