Pousada De Armenteira

The staff were welcoming and friendly, and breakfast in the chic restaurant was excellent. They weren’t serving dinner there during our late September stay, but the local pub and restaurant was surprisingly good. We also saw the singing nuns at the monastery at 7pm, which you must do if staying overnight in Armentiera. From our stay in late Sep-24, this was a smart, modern hotel that gave me the impression it might be struggling a little with overheads. The twin room was a great size, with modern decor and some cool bathroom design choices. It was comfortable, spotless, and had the nice extra touches you’d expect from a higher-end hotel. There’s even a pool accessible from the end of the room, though the autumn weather ruled out a swim.

We stayed for two days, and the staff were great. The beds were amazing, and the rooms felt well worth the money. I really liked the fruit selection at breakfast. I would’ve preferred a different coffee instead of Nespresso, but that’s a small wish, nothing essential.

It was drizzling and cold when we got in from the Camino. The receptionist pointed us to the coffee machine, and that made the long walk to the hotel feel worthwhile.

The room was spacious and interesting, though dated, and the location is handy for exploring Armenteira and La Routa de Agua e Pedras. The hotel must once have been a marvel, but now feels like a shadow of its former self. There are lots of empty spaces, and the wood throughout looks old. The welcome was a little strange too.
