Albergue Folgueira

The reception was pleasant, and the place was very clean and smelled great. It’s right in town, which is a great location. Some negative reviewers clearly haven’t stayed in many hostels. A shared room is going to have lots of people, and it can get a little stuffy in midsummer. For a hostel, this one is good.

The only reason I’m giving it two stars instead of one is that I know I paid just 15 euros. I’ve stayed in other albergues at similar prices with much better surroundings. This place seems to pack in as many people as possible: around 40 or more in one room, with bunk beds about an arm’s length apart. The shower water wasn’t hot, and there were no hooks for clothes or towels. It’s about as far from the town center as you can get. Maybe the only upside is that it’s at the start of the next day’s walk.

We called the owner at 11 p.m. to say we needed two beds, then arrived at 2 a.m. She was still awake and let us in. Absolutely friendly and helpful. I’d come back anytime.

There’s no board or curtain between the bunk beds, but it was okay. The property is a little far from the city center, though it’s right on the Camino route.
