The Mountains Hotel

The shared areas are beautiful, comfortable, well cared for, and tastefully decorated. The staff are pleasant and polite, though they keep a fairly distant attitude with guests. The rooms are a different story. The hotel has only been partly renovated, and many rooms still look like the 70s or 80s. They’re tiny, old, poorly lit and maintained, with very dated furniture and only relative cleanliness. There are few power sockets, and some are broken. The bar stays open until 1 a.m., and its noise carries straight into the rooms below. Access to the pool, sauna, and spa costs an extra €25 per person per hour, which feels excessive. If you want a contemporary renovated room, they ask for an exorbitant extra charge. For the price, expecting a comfortable, modern room feels ridiculous.

The location was great, the entrance view was nice, and the buffet service was good. Those were the main positives, but I was very disappointed with the place and my five-day ski trip stay. The rooms were old and poorly maintained, with several broken things, including the shower and window opener. There was no soundproofing, so noise from the corridors and neighboring rooms came through clearly. Guests seemed to be treated as first or second class. They told me the bar was closed when I asked for drinks, but half an hour later they were serving “wealthy” guests at midnight. I was also refused a coffee 30 minutes before the official closing time. Staff often ignored us while giving certain guests special attention. The staff generally weren’t friendly, except for the restaurant team.

The location is excellent, right in the heart of Pradollano, close to the ski lifts and everything you need in Sierra Nevada. Breakfast was another bright spot, with a wide range of fresh, tasty food. The area did often get crowded, though, as many families with children seemed to eat outside the hotel too. We stayed four nights in January 2026 with two children, and the hotel was a real disappointment. We chose it based on the appealing photos on its website and booking platforms, but they seem to show only the renovated rooms. We were put in the old part, and the difference is huge. That should be made clear in advance. The room was extremely noisy. We could hear everything from the hallway and neighboring rooms, including housekeeping trolleys passing as many as six times a day. Housekeeping activity continued throughout the day and was a constant disturbance. There was also a very strong, unpleasant smell like sewage or waste. It was unbearable. In the evening, drinks at the bar were pleasant, with live music and a nice atmosphere. Dinner is served from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm, but when we tried to order a couple of minutes before 7:30, they refused, saying the kitchen was “not open yet.” That felt rigid and unwelcoming. The hotel recommends renting equipment from Cerogrados, who they work with, but we found that poor advice. The neighboring shop, PATAGONIA, charged the same prices and gave much friendlier, more relaxed, and personal service. We also had to carry the rented ski equipment all the way to the parking garage and back when returning it. There’s no convenient ski-in/ski-out service for hotel guests.

The lobby, buffet, and bar look lovely, and being close to the ski hill was handy. Beyond that, I didn't find much to make the stay special. The room was okay, but poor value for what we paid, and the noise was awful: with no soundproofing, it felt like sleeping in a corridor beside shouting guests, running kids, and loud cleaners. The spa was just as disappointing. Residents still had to pay, an absurd €35 per person per hour. The pool was cold, and there was no chance to relax with children and adults shouting, splashing, and running around, even in the sauna and steam room. I couldn't see any staff, and there were no changing rooms, robes, towels, or slippers. It was really awful for that price.
