La Casona De Don Santos

For 6.5 weeks, this beautiful, historic, authentic hotel felt like home, thanks to the warm and welcoming team. They were always attentive and kind, and the whole stay was simply perfect for us. A heartfelt, huge thank you to everyone at 'Don Santos'!

The house itself is pretty and old, with tasteful decor, and the staff I spoke with on the phone were very friendly. But for what the hotel offers, I found the price very high. We paid over €140/night for two nights and arrived on a Sunday, the last weekend of August, to find no one at reception. That may not always be a problem, but at that rate I expected reception service. The garden also didn’t seem especially well kept, perhaps because it was the end of the season. Our double room with a queen-size bed was upstairs on the first floor and had a terrace, but felt cramped for two. Even handling both suitcases was awkward. The bed was the main issue: I think it was 1.35 meters wide, though I didn’t measure it, and the mattress seemed due for replacement. We slept badly both nights. The hotel was also noisy on the second night when other guests were there. I think we may have been alone the first night, since there wasn’t any particularly bothersome noise then. When I called to book, I was told that if other guests were staying, there would be a breakfast buffet, at what I think was €15 per person, separate from the reservation. But when we arrived, the café and lounge were shut. On the second morning, a group of Dutch tourists were having breakfast. At 8:30 a.m. I asked the woman serving them if we could eat there too. She said no, despite empty tables and plenty of food, and gave no explanation. I might have understood if she’d explained. The hotel is adequate, no more than that, and the bed was uncomfortable for us.

We were there for a weekend as a couple with our dog, and the terrace was fantastic. Our dog was delighted while we were out. The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean, and the service was impeccable. They were very accommodating with everything we needed. A great choice!
