AluaSoul Orotava Valley Hotel

The hilltop setting gives you beautiful views of the volcano and mountains when the skies are clear, though it may not suit anyone who finds steep walks difficult. The beach, supermarkets, mini-marts, and nearby restaurants are about an 11-minute walk away. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and we had a generally positive stay. The main problems were the bed and getting enough heat. My partner and I stayed five days in January with breakfast included. The options were okay, but much the same on the same days, so they became repetitive. I had dinner at the hotel restaurant a couple of times and found it decent. There was a microwave, which mattered to me because I prefer hot food. The food choice was limited but acceptable. I’d booked a double bed, but it was two singles pushed together and uncomfortable for both of us. Temperatures were 17-21°C during the day, then dropped a lot in the evening. After a very cold first night, I asked for a heater. The receptionist said the only one was being used by another guest, so we got extra blankets instead. That didn’t feel acceptable in the colder weather, especially since our fourth-floor room near the swimming pool had no door to block the drafts. On the third night, a very friendly male receptionist took our details and managed to get us a heater. After that, the room was much warmer and more comfortable.

The sea-facing room was the highlight of our holiday. My girlfriend and I had just spent five days here, and although we booked another view, we were upgraded. The rooms were nice, and the hotel matched the pictures from when we booked. Staff were friendly and helpful, explaining things clearly and kindly. It’s well placed for getting around by taxi, bus, or coach. I’d recommend it and would stay again.

We came for our honeymoon, and the hotel made us feel so comfortable that we’ll always remember the holiday. The pool and pool area were lovely, and we really enjoyed the food at the pool bar. Its drinks weren’t as good as those at the main bar, but were still good. The staff made the stay, from the bar team’s effort to the chefs’ work. The salad was especially well presented, and even as picky eaters, my husband and I always found something we liked. The food was nice and there was a large buffet selection. Our room was beautiful, and the hotel was clean. On arrival, there was a damp mop smell in the room that went away after we opened the patio doors. We noticed a similar odd smell near what I think was the cleaning cupboard in the corridor, but it wasn’t a major issue. My husband just likes to complain, lol. The location was quiet and close to the beach. The staff were so welcoming and amazing. We had a really good stay. Highly recommend, and thanks for a lovely honeymoon!

The place smelled awful, like an old property, and the view was pathetic. It was the worst hotel experience I’ve had. When it rained, water leaked from the roof and into the corridors. I’d pay extra for a better view and a different stay. Don’t be taken in by the big breakfast photos. There’s plenty of food, but none of it felt worth it. They use a lot of oil in the omelettes, and don’t even peel the fruit, so you have to do it yourself. My Favorite Club at least included the same three small snacks and drinks, which was the one good thing.
