Hotel Sun Holidays

We paid a good price for a triple room with our baby and stayed one night. The staff were helpful and nice, and the location was great, near the beach, town centre and lots of restaurants. It got a little noisy from nearby hospitality businesses, but not too bad, and they closed around 11 pm. The room had an ocean view and a large terrace overlooking the street. The sheets were clean and smelled nice, but the room had a strong cleaning-chemical smell. The furniture, halls and balcony were all old. For this price, I can't complain about that, but it was dirty: the floors and terrace chair were dirty, and there were cobwebs in the room. We had a crawling baby, and all the dirt ended up on her clothes.

The balcony, the room's nice old-fashioned decor and the very nice reception were the positives. The hotel was hugely overpriced for what it offered. We paid €56 for one night, about the price of a four-star hotel, but it wasn't worth even €20. The overall quality was poor, though that's not the main issue. The noise was awful, so much that it's like staying in a well rather than a building. Forget about sleeping here. The location was horrendous too.

The location is great, the staff are nice, and the room was spacious. But the hotel feels very dated, as if it hasn’t been renovated since the communist era. It was also extremely noisy: we were speaking at a normal volume around midnight and the neighbors shouted at us to be quiet. At €65 a night, it’s too expensive for what it is. They should either lower the price or renovate.

We liked the little balcony, even though it was small, and had a nice room with a sea view and the lighthouse. It’s a cheerful, inexpensive place in a lovely part of town, among the old streets, and there’s a fridge in the room. The area had plenty going on without being too loud. We would’ve stayed another night, but booked at the last minute and they were full. Definitely worth considering for a stopover in surprisingly nice Puerto de la cruz.
