Hipotels La Geria

The bar and restaurant staff were really friendly, and special thanks to Erika for making our holiday even better. The hotel is lovely and very clean, though the pool terrace is always full of water in the mornings. The pool itself was so cold that I barely managed to swim during the whole holiday. We’ll be back next year!

The hotel looks lovely, with nice rooms and pool areas, and there were plenty of sunbeds for everyone. They don’t open until 9am, though, which feels late if you want an early swim or to claim a spot. The spa’s good deals were a nice bonus. The location is handy, with local shops and restaurants nearby, and taxis were excellent. Every time we booked one, it arrived in about 10 minutes. Daytime and evening entertainment were very good too. Food was a bit disappointing. It was okay but repetitive, with lots of fish and few vegetarian choices, and the meal times seemed backwards, especially with children. We were frustrated that all-inclusive guests couldn’t eat outside, or even have lunch on their own balcony, without paying extra for the “exclusive buffet” service. The food was essentially the same as the standard buffet, with outdoor dining in the sun as the difference. Meanwhile, the indoor buffet room often felt crowded. Service was mixed. Most evenings were fine, but one night we waited over 20 minutes for drinks after asking two different staff members, then gave up and went back to our room. The hotel has a nice look and good facilities and entertainment, but the limited dining choices and repetitive food let it down. More variety and flexibility would make the experience much better.

We really liked the quieter setting right by the beach. It wasn’t too crowded, and there were still enough cafés and shops nearby. The massages at the Body Care spa were amazing, the food was world class, and the staff were always friendly and helpful. We’re planning to come back.

The location is super, the welcome was excellent, and breakfast was very good. I’ve stayed before, when La Geria was great fun, but the change of ownership seems to have taken the life out of the place. The bar staff seemed under pressure to make sales, though things relaxed after the shift or manager changed. Small things added to the feeling that pennies were being watched more than guest comfort: glasses weren’t collected from the room, there was no seat or desk, and the fridge door opened against the outer door.
