Luz Y Mar Apartments

The beds were reasonably comfortable and the shower was okay, but the cockroaches were a big problem. The room itself was very basic, and on arrival there was no hand soap, washing-up liquid or dishcloths, so be prepared to buy all of that. Sorry, but I wouldn't stay again. Disappointing.

I booked because I was on a budget and wanted to take my two girls away, although the reviews had made me a bit nervous. We ended up absolutely loving our stay at Luz Y Mar. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is that we saw a few cockroaches in the kitchen on three separate occasions. The apartment was clean and well equipped, and the pool and poolside were lovely. Staff were friendly, and Kathys pool bar was handy and amazing. You're only a few minutes' walk from a big shopping centre with plenty to do, and about 10 minutes from the beachfront, both new town and old. I've been to Lanzarote loads of times and will definitely stay at Luz Y Mar again.

We stayed from 13th June to 29th, with three adults and a baby sharing one apartment. It was big enough and clean enough for us. The pool area was adequate with plenty of sunbeds, and Kathy's bar beside the pool was nice. We did enjoy ourselves, and it's close enough to walk to maccy d's and the strip, with lidl just two minutes away. The difficult part was the noise from groups of lads getting drunk and jumping in and out of the pool at 4am. Reception dealt with our complaint straight away, but other groups took their place as soon as one left. The Italian bar at the end of the apartments belongs to Luz y mar. We weren't impressed, and my husband got food poisoning from the carbonara, so I really wouldn't go back or recommend it.

The location was handy, with supermarkets, bars and restaurants within a minute. Taxis drop you by the bars at either end, where the hotel entrances are, but they aren't signed. Reception is to the right of the Italian restaurant. One big plus was the bar and cafe on site, though I wrote a separate review for that. It's cheap, and you get what you pay for. We used it as a base. The place was outdated but clean, and the self-catering setup had what we needed. Reception is barely there, so if you arrive outside office hours, your key will be in an envelope taped to the door. There's no air con, WiFi is erratic, and sunbed towels aren't provided. Rooms aren't cleaned during your stay, but fresh towels and toilet roll are given every three days. The pool is okay, though I imagine it gets noisy in summer with kids and inflatables. There's basically no staff around. Some of the loungers are old and have no support at all, so be careful. As I said, you get what you pay for.
