Hotel Rural Marcos

It's a very clean place, with the cleaning staff coming through daily. We stayed with our 3 yo daughter and had a three-bed room; we were able to push the beds together into one huge bed. The man in charge went out of his way to help us, and the staff were friendly. It's not fancy, but it's ideal if you want a rural feel among the trees and forest, outside the city. It's just outside the urban center, right across from the hiking trail to the monastery, natural pools, river, and more. There's a fairly large free parking area out back. The lunch special was very good, and breakfast toast with ham and tomato, orange juice, and coffee was great, though a bit expensive for the area. The restaurant wasn't open for dinner while we were there in July/August. There isn't much in the way of amenities, so bring your own. We always do, so it wasn't a problem. The rooms have no AC, but even in summer they stayed cool, almost chilly at night.

There was no evening meal, so we walked into town, which was fine. Breakfast was just about enough. We arrived on touring bikes needing a place to rest and recharge, and this ticked a lot of boxes. The rooms were reasonable, if basic rather than 4star, and there was plenty of hot water. The owner was always helpful, and our bikes were stored safely. Such a shame the weather's been so awful for the area.

A real mountain gem for budget travel. The hotel is charming, super clean, and smells fresh. Luis the owner is especially welcoming and friendly. You can get a light breakfast with good coffee for a small fee.

We chose this place after seeing its high rating, but my partner and I had a poor stay. The location was the one good point: close to town and not far from the natural swimming pools. The room was small and had awful air circulation. It stayed hot all night even with the window open, though it was chilly outside. The bathroom smelled bad by nighttime despite whatever perfume they'd sprayed, and opening the window barely helped. The toilet made a groaning noise for about a minute after flushing. The bed was old and creaky, and the blanket smelled a bit like dog pee. It wasn't a good experience, and we won't come back.
