Our family room worked well for us, with two sets of bunk beds, and the stone wall on one side was beautiful. There were eight beds in all, two toilets, and one bathroom had a tub and shower. Hot water was plentiful. The location in the historic part of town gives the place an old feel, and it was dark and cold during our stay. It was cold outside, and the only heater had no propane tank. The host seemed tired and told us about all the cleaning she had done when we arrived. You also had to climb over one person to reach the room’s only power outlet. At check-in, she said she made breakfast for pilgrims. We told her we didn’t eat breakfast and didn’t need it, but she quoted us €25. A fellow pilgrim later said the bed was €20 and breakfast €5. We went back and explained again that we didn’t want breakfast. She returned €5 per person and said she’d bring it to us. I wondered if there was a language barrier. My Spanish is pretty good, and she understood me the second time, so I’m not sure.

We had 3 bags, so paying €3 per bag for collection and another €3 per bag for the morning drop-off got very expensive. That was on top of the €8 Top Santiago charges for luggage service. The owner insisted on being paid before we could leave our bags at 7am, but didn’t have change. It felt like a cash grab from pilgrims on the Portuguese camino. This is pathetic. Luggage companies should find other places that don’t charge extra for delivery and pick-up, or include it in the delivery price. Pilgrims shouldn’t patronize this albergue either. The owner seems very money-minded.

The beach house was peaceful and private, about 1 km from the main albergue and the Camino. It’s clearly the owner’s home. I was grateful for a great stay during a very crowded week on the Camino. The bed was comfortable, the sheets and towels spotless, and the house completely quiet.

The breakfast was great, but we were very disappointed with this albergue. Rosa charged us €40 for a private room, yet people kept walking through it to hang washing on our balcony, and the bathroom was on another floor. That felt like a gross misrepresentation, and not in the spirit of the Camino.

This was the first albergue we slept in, on our first Camino 6 years ago. We had no trouble with the sleeping arrangements or the price then. After reading the other reviews, I wanted to defend the place. We’re thinking of coming back on our 4th Camino, which is why I looked up its name.
