Hotel El Golobar

The evening menu had a good choice, and beers were €2.50. I paid £33 for a double room with breakfast included. It was a very biker-friendly stop with secure parking for bikes, and a good base for touring around the Picos. The ride back to Santander via ca171 and N623 was nice. I stayed on my last night in Spain before catching the ferry, and would stay here again if I'm in the area.

I had a delicious meal, slept well in a comfy bed, and found the room clean and tidy. The night was a real pleasure, and breakfast was only €4, a very reasonable price. The waitress at the front desk and bar was attentive from the start and such a lovely person. My Spanish isn't conversational, but she explained everything carefully and we had a few laughs despite the language barrier. I'd highly recommend staying at El Golobar after a ferry crossing to Santander.

The location is on an industrial estate and isn't glamorous, but it's only a 10-15 minute walk into a lovely town centre with shops and food. It's a handy stop off the highway on a motorbike tour, and being allowed to leave the bikes in the yard was a big help. Rooms were very clean, basic as you'd expect at this price. Staff were helpful, but they don't speak English, so bring a translator app if you don't speak Spanish. I'd recommend it for a stop with the lads, though I'd choose somewhere else for a break with the wife.

For 30€ for one person, the price was excellent. The room was big and clean, with a hair dryer in the bathroom, and there's plenty of street parking, though the area felt a bit like a wasteland and I wasn't comfortable leaving my car there. There was no air conditioning, but summer nights were an okay temperature. The room design looked like a teenager's bedroom from 1980, complete with a squashed bug on the wall as decoration. The real issue was the noise. The walls might as well be paper, I could hear everything. It felt like I was sleeping next to a truck driver snoring, with the TV on and a kid playing on the floor. In the morning, doors banged and woke me several times, like a bomb had gone off in the room. It's a pity the walls aren't soundproof, because the price is very good.
