O Faro Apartments

The apartment was nicely decorated and warm, and the cleaning was fine. We didn’t meet the owner; we picked up the keys at the shop downstairs. Parking was a problem, and the bedroom faced a busy street, so it was quite noisy. Of the three or four lamps, only one worked.

Plácido was a friendly, attentive host, and he welcomed us with a lovely bottle of wine. The apartment was spacious, stylish and well located. We’d definitely come back, highly recommended.

This felt like a complete rip-off. It was incredibly expensive, yet none of the things advertised on Booking.com were available: no bar, no playground, and no breakfast. They don’t respond to questions, and I know other guests have received rude, arrogant replies. The apartments smell of sewage because the plumbing isn’t properly installed, and they hadn’t even left a cleaning cloth. I did stay there, but a friend made the reservation.

The apartment is very central, and the woman handling check-in and check-out was friendly and helpful. There were a few nice decorative touches, but I wouldn’t recommend the place. We rented it for four people, yet there was no proper table, just a tiny piece of furniture that could hold two plates, and only three chairs until we asked for another. There are no Booking.com photos showing this, so you don’t know before booking. For a four-person rental, I expected somewhere for four people to eat, not just four beds, one of them a sofa bed. The owner, whom we never met, answered our complaint about the lack of dining space by saying we should have rented the larger apartment. The smallest one cost almost 300 euros per night, and our issue wasn’t its size, but that it wasn’t equipped for four. There were other problems too. The living room/dining room blind is broken and won’t come all the way down. The washing machine doesn’t work properly, and there’s no dryer despite what Booking.com says. The TV needs work to function properly, and the cleaning was poor, especially in the kitchen and bathroom. The first-floor windows face a busy street with traffic day and night, and the view is of a restaurant and apartment buildings. There are far more negatives than positives. I’d pay 50-60 euros a night at most, certainly not what we were charged.
