Hotel La Vijanera

That burger might have been the best I’ve ever had, and the tomato salad was the best too. I’d come back to the region just to eat here again; otherwise I’d be too sad to miss another meal like that. The lively staff, local crowd, and surroundings made the restaurant feel even more special. Thanks for having us!

The food was lovely, and the manager’s recommendations were incredible. We especially loved the cauliflower. After a long hike, the drink deals were a bargain, and there are outdoor tables where you can relax. The team was super friendly and easy to chat with, like old friends. Great coffee and tortilla in the morning, and great surfing right on the doorstep. This was our best stay on the Camino. I’ll be back one day!

I’d forgotten the dish names, but the octopus and the steak with duck were both beautifully plated, even in takeaway boxes, and tasted fantastic. I also loved both desserts, the baked cheesecake and sea salt chocolate cake, right to the last bite. I’d failed to get a late, last-minute table at Restaurante Torre in the hotel where I was staying, so I crossed the street and picked up two great entrees and desserts here. I’d expected very little and just wanted food for the room. I was impressed by Torre’s menu across the road and ended up eating there for lunch the next day, but this restaurant can get overshadowed by its neighbor. It would fit perfectly into a full-day food tour of this little part of Cantabria.

The room was clean, modern, comfortable, and well cared for. The building looks new but fits the area nicely. Reception was fast, professional, and helpful, with suggestions for the extra time I hadn’t planned on. I enjoyed the restaurant both for a late breakfast and later for menu del día. It seems popular with locals, which is always a good sign.
