After walking the Camino three times, this is one of my favorite places to stay. My wife was feeling rough after days on the trail, and A Casa Vella da Rivera gave us exactly the rest we needed. We were there in July 2025, and even though I’m writing this late, the place has stayed with me long after Santiago. Xing and Diego clearly care about their guests. The house was spotless but still had its own character, and the quiet let us properly reset. Xing welcomed us warmly and seemed to have endless energy, making sure every detail was right without hovering. She made us a lovely, simple dinner, then cooked breakfast to order the next morning. She even walked us back to the Camino route so we wouldn’t get lost. That kind of care feels real. You don’t expect perfection on the Camino, just sore feet, questionable beds, and whatever dinner you can find after 20+ miles. If you get the chance, stop here. Don’t think twice.

This was our favorite stay on the Camino. The rooms were quite clean, the food was delicious and unusual, and the hosts were lovely. A few thoughtful gestures made us feel especially welcome.

We spent the last night of the Portuguese Camino in this lovely, homely house. The gardens are beautiful, the rooms comfortable, and the owners do a lot to make you feel welcome. They were friendly and helpful throughout. We’d booked breakfast, then asked if dinner was possible too. I’m so glad we did: it was amazing, freshly cooked Spanish and Chinese fusion. I’m pescatarian, and they provided a meat-free alternative for each dish. Breakfast was lovely as well. I’d highly recommend staying here.

We found a lovely little gem on our last night before Santiago. Shin is from China, and her husband Diego is a Galician native. They met in Malaysia, and now welcome pilgrims from all over the world. Their Spanish and Asian tapas are a real treat. It’s well worth staying here for a night before heading to Santiago.
