Hotel Bahia Serena

The breakfast was a bit dull, though perfectly okay. The room was lovely, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Tourist attractions are very close, and there's a great restaurant around the corner for dinner.

I honestly wanted to leave after the first day. The place was dirty and noisy, with very old, broken furniture and a kitchen that looked straight out of the 1970s, with hardly anything in it. We spent an hour cleaning and disinfecting. I can't understand how anyone could rate this four stars. It felt like a minus-four-star hotel. I wouldn't recommend it at all. Save your money and stay away.

The staff were capable and friendly, the beds comfortable, the balcony large, and the pool was nice. Direct access to a big beach was a real plus, though a huge pipeline is being built along it, so I'm unsure how easy it will be to get into the sea once it extends. The atrium also seemed to flood when it rained. I visited outside the main season, which may explain some of the problems, but the hotel was underwhelming overall. For a place rated four stars, the room was below standard. The stove didn't work, there was no kettle, the badly fitted front door had a gap of about 1 cm underneath and let in noise, and the bathroom window opened onto the hall. The all-inclusive food was the worst I've had at a hotel. It was mostly frozen, with what felt like one freshly cooked dish per meal, usually paella. Some razor clams were gritty because they hadn't been washed. Breakfast, usually my highlight, was disappointing too: a poor attempt at a full English, dreadful bacon, and the cheapest yogurt. The fruit and fresh vegetables were sweet and fresh, but the choice was small and the presentation wasn't nice. Drinks were limited to wine or water. I wouldn't recommend coming in the off season, and I have doubts about what it's like at peak times. I won't be back.

The food was excellent, and full board included a whole bottle each of wine and water with lunch and dinner. The waiters were pleasant, though their role seemed to be clearing plates and cutlery into buckets, so the dining room felt more like a canteen than a four-star hotel's restaurant. Our stay was good overall. The hotel is right on the beach, the beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was a good size with a nice hot shower. The lounge and kitchen were spacious, and there were two lovely terraces. We didn't use them apart from hanging out our underwear because we had no view.
