Protur Roquetas Hotel & Spa

The room made this a relaxing first holiday with our baby. We paid to upgrade to a suite with a hot tub jacuzzi, which gave us space to unwind in the living room or on the big balcony once our daughter was asleep. We also appreciated the wine and flowers waiting for us, plus bottled drinks restocked in the minibar every day. The hot tub was broken for our first night, unfortunately. A technician checked it, a new motor was ordered and fitted the next day, and it worked brilliantly after that. It was a straightforward fix, but I wish it had been spotted before we arrived. We had to ask a few times for the room to be cleaned because it was tricky to work around our daughter's naps, but the cleaners did come each time. The hotel was extremely clean and had good facilities, with direct access to the beach. There isn't much nearby, so outside the hotel we just took a gentle walk and visited the great ice cream parlour across the road. The pool was really cold and we hardly used it. Aqua gym sessions would have been nice. I appreciated the morning exercise classes Avi ran, she was friendly, energetic, and fun to be around. The gym had decent machines and was available, and I enjoyed the spa circuit and indoor pool. We didn't use the entertainment for children or adults, though there seemed to be plenty on offer. The food could be better, especially some of the cheaper, fatty, or chewy cuts of meat. Even so, we found the quality good overall, with plenty of choice through the day at both buffets, and we enjoyed the house wine and sangria. All the staff worked hard, and we appreciated them. The five-star rating may be misleading if you're expecting luxury, but we had a really lovely and relaxing stay with our baby.

If you're after nightlife, this is far from everything and there's hardly any evening entertainment for adults, though kids have more to do. The location is right on the beach and lovely for a quiet break. The hotel is beautiful, with a great pool featuring a lazy river and spa jets. There's a good buffet selection, but the food isn't kept hot. So far our meals have been warm at best.

The hotel is right on the beach, which is a plus, and the pool was okay, though small. The animation team was good, but the rooms were old. The food was embarrassing and management was horrible. If you know what a five-star all-inclusive hotel should be like, this will disappoint badly. It's a high three stars, in my view. I'd probably rate it better if it were advertised as four stars. I regret staying there.

The staff are brilliant, but the food quality disappointed us, and this isn't a five-star hotel. When a week all-inclusive holiday with flights from the UK can cost around £600, something has to be cut and quality is at risk. We've stayed before, but this will be our last time. After 42 nights in different hotels around the world this year, this is the first one where two things really surprised us: there was no iron for guests to use, only a paid service, and we couldn't connect a Firestick because their router “blocks it connecting”.
