We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Roquetas El Palmeral. The room was clean and newly refurbished, with a lovely balcony where we could catch glimpses of the sea. There's plenty of parking and the beach is a short walk away. The downsides were that the air conditioning wasn't very effective, and the pool closes in October, which felt very early to us.

The two women running the water aerobics and poolside entertainment were so lovely. They always stopped for a chat and made my friend and me feel welcome. The shows were really good too. Plenty of staff spoke very little English, but they were always happy to help and never made us feel unwelcome. It was a perfect stay for us, and we'd definitely return.

We only stayed one night in March. The room was a good size, with huge, comfortable beds, and both the location and parking were good. I'm not sure what parking would be like in summer. The bathroom extractor fan didn't work. The shower water was far too hot, and the controls are set high enough that it's easy to knock them toward hot and get a blast of scalding water. Temperature controlled shower taps aren't expensive and could be installed easily. You have to pay €4 a day for the safe, which is free in most hotels. It isn't much, but it feels penny pinching. The safe was loose above the minibar, which didn't even have a small bottle of water. The bedside reading lamps don't move and are too close to the beds. If you aren't careful getting up, you'll hit your head on them, which is why they're loose or broken.

The staff were the best part of this hotel: friendly and full of fun. It was very clean, and for a three star place, I thought it was very good. We were in Roquetas De Mar for a week. The hotel seemed aimed at local Spanish guests, some of whom were a bit rude, though that was okay. The food was very Spanish, with lots of fish and much the same dishes each day. We were half board but ate out often. Would I book again? Probably not. Thanks, regards, Seamus.

Rooms were clean and fresh, the beds comfortable, and there was free parking. The balcony was small for a family, but just right for two people in the evening. We were self catering, and snacks and drinks were reasonably priced: €2.50 for beer or sangria and €3 for chips. The pool is small for a hotel this size, but it wasn't busy when we were there. There were loads of sunbeds and plenty of shade. We had a strange €50 charge on our card two days before arrival even though we'd paid in full. Hotel staff couldn't explain it, so I had to dispute it with the bank. It's five minutes on foot to the beach and a ten minute drive to the aquarium. A nice little beach resort.
