Hotel Villa Virginia

The staff were lovely and helpful, but the rest of our treat stay at this four-star hotel was a big disappointment. We'd picked it as a bike-friendly place during a two-week holiday where we'd otherwise stayed in lower-rated places. The bike storage was downstairs, through a sharp right turn into a room. With our heavy electric bikes, getting around that corner would have been very difficult, maybe impossible. The pool didn't open until 4pm, and the sauna needed booking in advance so staff could turn it on. Nobody told us that until we tried to use it. Getting pool towels was a wait too: we had to ask reception, then wait while someone fetched them. The recommended restaurant was nearly empty, with just three tables occupied. Starters were lovely, but my medium steak arrived blue with the wrong side, and my husband's pork was pink and undercooked in places. We sent both back. My steak came back rare, which I could eat, but the pork was even worse, cold and raw in the middle. The waitress was very nice and clearly mortified. The manager offered to put it under the grill, but my husband had already eaten some of the first serving and felt queasy, so he'd lost his appetite. They removed it from the bill, but the meal was ruined. Breakfast disappointed too. When we asked if the tortilla could be warmed, they showed us a microwave. There were no hot eggs on offer, like fried eggs or an omelette, and only plain yogurt, no fruit. We were later told we could have asked for eggs, but there was no sign saying so. It just didn't feel like a four-star experience, which was especially disappointing.

Veronica greeted us when we arrived and was super friendly and helpful. We really appreciated the complimentary sodas, water and chocolates in our room. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was spacious with double sinks, and we could choose our pillows. Breakfast was included in the room fee and was very good. The restaurant staff were friendly and the service was excellent too. We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful family-owned hotel, and we'll definitely come back to this area. Thank you!

The room was large and clean, and the staff were pleasant, but the air conditioning didn't work. When we told reception, they first brushed it off and said we didn't know how to use the thermostat. We confirmed that we did, and they said maintenance would come, but nobody ever showed up. We sweated all night and couldn't sleep. It was very disappointing and made an already expensive vacation unpleasant. It soured my mood.

We found the hotel wonderfully located, and the attached restaurant was fantastic. Our room was immaculate, breakfast was included and great, and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We had an incredible stay, and I highly recommend it.
