They never explained that check-in was fully online. I couldn't check in and had to find other accommodation, but they refused to refund me. My worst experience ever. Don't book with them.

The good parts were that it was clean, very cheap, and centrally located. That's why this gets two stars. Gaia rooms says they can be reached by phone 24 hours a day, and they were pleasant and helpful when I got through, but they missed two of my calls. There are no staff at the hostel, no Wi-Fi, kitchen, fridge, or coffee machine. The “keys” are codes sent to your mobile, and mine didn't work. The physical keys inside the room didn't work either.

The location was a real plus, close to the center and Carrefour, and there are pubs and cafes nearby where you can get discounts. The staff were lovely and spoke Spanish and English. Inside, the design is very cool, and the rooms were clean and warm. A couple of bathroom details let it down: there was no shampoo or soap, and the shower door had a big gap. I’d happily stay again if I come back to Salamanca.

The cafe was great, and the hostel itself was clean with friendly staff. I had a good experience, though I do wish the kitchen had a stove and was better equipped.
