Hostal Gonzala by GaiaRooms

I paid for two nights but left after one and had to find somewhere else right away. The bed was comfortable, the shower worked well, and the room was clean. Apart from that, everything was very, very, very bad, and I won't return. The room had no air conditioning, although I thought it did because the listing was a bit misleading. Instead there was a wall-mounted fan that worked terribly. The shower leaked water everywhere. The room next door had loud music and a strong marijuana smell when I arrived, and that smell was more or less constant during my stay. The place is in a residential building where the main door doesn't close properly because its lock is broken. They provide virtual keys that only work sometimes, and there's no staff around. Instructions for the keys, door PIN and route to the room wing were not explained well.

We wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend it. We had asked for a double bed but arrived to find two singles. Once we pushed them together, it was clear the room hadn't been cleaned properly, and it had a strong musty smell, almost like some kind of chemical. At night the rooms weren't properly soundproofed, so we could hear everything, including other guests talking, banging, children and the old fan, which didn't do much. We'd originally booked Hostal Albero, part of the same chain, Gaia Rooms. The night before our trip, at around 9:45 PM, they called to move us to Hostal Gonzala without giving a specific reason. They said it would "benefit" us because we'd be closer to the historic centre. It didn't benefit us. It separated us from the other group we were travelling with and put us in a more central area with worse parking, despite the low-emission zone restrictions for our vehicle.

Everything was very clean, though the bed felt a little small to me. It’s pretty typical for this kind of hostel. In my room, you could hear noises whenever someone ran hot water.

The rooms were clean, but sound carried from the neighboring rooms. It’s inexpensive, though the whole setup is digital and we ran into trouble with the entry code. Finding the customer service number was difficult, but the woman we reached was very friendly.
