Hostal Lucía by gaiarooms

Salamanca is beautiful, but I regret this stay. The bathroom seemed clean, and that was about the only okay part. The mattress sagged in the middle, the pillow was too high, and there was no A/C. With the window open, yelling drunk people passing right below woke me several times through the night. There's no sound insulation. The location is at the edge of the interesting area. I had booked and paid for a better hotel, but at check-in they reassigned me here. They offered to cancel, but it was already late afternoon. I won't return or recommend it.

Paula was lovely and kind, the only good part of this awful place. The online check-in was easy enough, but everything else was bad. My room was tiny, with barely space for a single bed, sink, and shower. The toilet had no door, and with the blinds open, people in the apartments across the road could see you on the toilet, in the shower, or in bed. It smelled strongly of cigarettes and air freshener, so they clearly know about the smoke smell. The shower leaked and flooded the whole room. I called for help, but it took 40 minutes for someone to arrive. They only offered a less good hostel of theirs with a shared bathroom, and no refund or payment of the difference. The man on the phone was rude and unhelpful. I had to find somewhere else at 10 pm on a Friday night, which was terrible. I'd never stay here again or recommend this place or any others owned by the chain.

The location is good, but that's about all I can say for it. Getting into the building and then your room is a nightmare, with nobody there to help since everything is handled online and by phone. There was only one outlet in the room, and the shower leaked all over the floor.

The hostel is near the Centre but tucked away from the noisy street, which is a plus. It felt cosy and comfortable, though the rooms are quite small.
