We had a really pleasant family afternoon at Mesón La Ribera in San Martín del Obispo, just a short distance from Saldaña. The food is homemade and full of flavor, with local ingredients on the daily and varied menus. There’s a garden with a pond and swings for the little ones. Highly recommended, and great value for the price, 10/10.

A good spot for either a full meal or some tapas, like cured beef, tripe, chorizo, and ham. The rustic restaurant has a garden where geese wander freely, plus swings for kids and parking. You can also stay in one of the cottages. A nice place to eat or grab a snack.

The food was poor, and I wouldn’t recommend coming here. The salad still had the tomato seal on it and hadn’t been drained properly, so there was cleaning water on it. The macaroni was bland and had very little meat. The tough entrecôte was no better, and we had to ask repeatedly for a serrated knife. They’d run out of desserts and offered a slice of ice cream instead. Service took ages, and they gave our table to other customers right in front of us. This was the Sunday menu for €20, which felt like a lot when I can eat much better for €10 on a Sunday in my town.

The homemade cheesecake was so smooth it practically melted in my mouth. The portions were generous, and we all enjoyed the food. There are animals outside, including ducks, chickens, and a pony, each in their own area. It’s a really cool, rustic place. We went for a family lunch while they were very busy, but barely had to wait between courses. The service was fantastic, and staff even came around to check on tables despite the restaurant being full. Good value, excellent service, and I’m sure I’ll come back.

The staff were lovely and the service was quick. The food was good apart from the desserts, which were homemade but almost better left off the menu. The place itself is pretty, though it feels badly neglected. Clearing out some of the plastic pots, doing maintenance, and bringing back some good taste would make a big difference. I left with mixed feelings. I also thought it was awful to see a restaurant member eating at a large table by the bar and watching TV while the waitresses were working. Restaurant staff or members should eat before or after service. I’ll come back, but I’ll pay attention to what’s going on.
