Apartaments CYE SALOU

The roof terrace was really nice, and the local pigeons were so tame they kept me entertained. There’s a pool, a restaurant with nightly entertainment, plenty of shops nearby, and bus stops out front. Sounds ideal, but somehow it didn’t all come together. Our top floor room was a good size, with comfortable beds, a TV, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, and ware. But the utensils were stored metres from the kitchen, the TV was tucked into a nook, and there was no sofa table or comfortable way to sit on the sofa. The bedroom window was small and had no view. It felt stripped down to the basics, yet cost 160 euro a night. Budget, luxury, and comfort don’t always go together. The hotel game room had no games at all. There are four pool tables on site, but not much for younger children. Downstairs, the bar alternates between bingo, karaoke, and quizzes.

You can get to everything easily from here, and the staff are so helpful. The apartments were clean and comfortable, with all the amenities we needed. When we didn’t feel like cooking, the Lazy Wave bar and restaurant downstairs served great food, and you can get to it directly from the apartments.

We’re stuck here right now, and they won’t refund us so we can go somewhere decent. It’s been really noisy all night, with people calling the phone, knocking on doors, and ringing the doorbell. The fire alarm went off at 5 a.m. We’ve been trying to leave for two days. The beds are awful and rock hard, and the double is just two singles pushed together. The walls are paper thin. Terrible customer service, and the worst place we’ve stayed in across our five trips to Salou.

I’ve stayed at the CYE apts over the last 15 years, and I’ve been back four times in the past three years. After the refurbishment, the apartments are modern and very clean. The cleaners leave the rooms impeccable, and the staff are friendly and willing to help with anything. It’s right in the middle of the action, with a bar underneath, an excellent pool, and everything else close by. Ten out of ten for service, friendliness, and cleanliness. Other hotels should take a leaf out of the Cye book.
