The welcome was thoughtful, with a plate of fruit and a bottle of champagne left for us. The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly, and the rooms are solid and comfortable. Best Los Angeles sits in a lovely, quiet spot, with the beach and nearby activities about a five-minute walk away. It looks like a 3.5-star place. I’d stayed at Best Tenerife several times and been very satisfied, so I was happy to try another hotel from Best Hotels. The kitchen and food were a disgrace for the Best Hotels group. Breakfast was very poor, and one person working the large 10-metre grill meant a 20-minute wait for a simple omelette. Dinner was terrible. There were only one or two main dishes: the meat was sometimes good and sometimes not, while the other option was the same disgusting fish in sauce every day. It seemed like leftover fish from the previous evening and lunch was being served that way. Around those mains were four kinds of poor side dishes, and one man at the big grill made the same boring item each day, with another 20-minute wait. The salad choice was poor, and when something ran out, it wasn’t replenished. Desserts tasted bad. There was no ice cream freezer with several flavors like in other hotels, just odd little plastic cups of tasteless ice cream, the kind you find in 1- or 2-star hotels. This hotel is listed as 4-star, but the food range and quality were 2-star at best. I’ll say it again, the kitchen is a disgrace for Best Hotels.

The city-center location puts bars and clubs right around the corner, but the loud music went on until 6 a.m. and made it impossible to rest. There were also drunk or high people stumbling around and bothering passersby. The hotel was far too crowded and nowhere near a 4-star standard. Rooms are tiny, with barely room for suitcases. Our shower head was broken, and the glass screen got in the way, so standing awkwardly in the bathtub to shower was a challenge, especially with the broken fixture. The buffet was poor, neither tasty nor varied, and the same food came around every other day. Eating the repetitive meals day after day upset my stomach. The online pictures are very misleading. Best Hotels properties seem almost identical inside and out, and the photos might be from a different hotel in the chain. My rating is below average, and I strongly recommend avoiding Best Hotels.

I booked ten nights half board at the LosAngeles hotel in Salou, but the room they gave us was opposite a nightclub. The music blared until around midnight, then again between 4 and 6 a.m., which ruined my holiday. I ended up ill with a cold and a bad chest, probably because the lack of sleep affected my immune system. I asked reception to move me each day for the first five days and was told the hotel was fully booked. On the sixth day, they finally moved me to a quieter room, but it had no balcony. We were staying half board. The breakfast was

The location is good for pubs and shopping, and the rooms were clean. Food and service were poor, though. The food was often cold, tea and coffee weren’t readily available because the machine was broken, and all-inclusive snacks were limited to things like chips or burgers. The staff weren’t very friendly.

The hotel is spotless, and the cleaners kept our room fresh with clean towels and a made bed every day. Reyonso is a lovely, hardworking restaurant manager, and the restaurant team and show chefs were friendly too. We’re here with my partner, and as a gay couple we’ve felt safe and welcome throughout. It took us a little while to get used to table service for drinks at lunch and dinner. At the pool bar, the included snacks are hot dogs, chips, ham and cheese toasties, and burgers. Some alcohol isn’t included, and cocktails cost extra, about €3, which isn’t bad. If you know your cocktails, you can probably mix something yourself from the available drinks. There’s plenty to do around Salou. The lively area is about a five-minute walk away, while the quieter old town is 20-25 minutes along the beachfront. The hotel’s entertainment seems aimed more at locals. We couldn’t fit everything in during a week, so we’ll come back. Highly recommend.
