Hotel Santa Monica Playa

For a long weekend, we just wanted a bed, shower and balcony, and this room was exactly what we needed. It was clean, they kept us supplied with towels, and there was no hassle. The hotel is very central, with the main strip of shops and restaurants only a short walk away.

The only real plus was the location. In the room, the three of us were given just two towels, and even after asking four times, we still only had two. The beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable, and were placed so close together that the setup felt like one single and one double, which didn't suit us. There were only two chairs on the balcony for three guests, and the room wasn't well equipped. It was noisy until midnight and there was a constant sound from somewhere in the room. There was no air con or heating. The curtains didn't close properly, so light came in all the time. Breakfast was cold and disgusting every day, and none of us could eat it. The TV said cable, but many channels didn't work, the working ones were in Spanish, and most of the others played music. The WiFi was a joke, with barely any signal, so connecting was a waste of time. There was no kettle either.

We didn't eat at the hotel, so I can't say anything about the food. Everything else was absolutely fine, and we'd happily stay again. My partner and I have tried several places in Salou, and given this hotel's price and location, I don't understand the negative reviews. It's basic, but clean and well maintained. Check-in was smooth and friendly, and reception were helpful whenever we spoke with them. The bar staff were just as warm, always smiling and up for a chat. Chilled beer glasses were especially welcome in the heat. The pool was relaxing and never too crowded. We were also glad to see the hotel welcoming adults with special needs with such respect and friendly professionalism, especially from the bar and entertainment staff. Well done to all of you.

Friendly staff, an excellent buffet breakfast and just a five-minute walk to both the shops and the beach. The pool is small, though honestly that's true of most hotel pools. You won't be disappointed.
