Pensión Santa Rosa

The space itself is nice, but her attitude made the stay feel awful and stressful. Her children checked us in without explaining the payment expectations. Then, an hour later, the woman who runs the place suddenly messaged us repeatedly, demanding that we leave dinner and return because she was finishing work in 20 minutes. We ran through town while she sent message after message counting down the time. She lives there, and a bit of communication and patience could have sorted it out, but she showed neither. In the morning, someone, possibly the same person, tried the bedroom door and shouted about checkout half an hour before the time. Thankfully it was locked. I never leave bad reviews, but this wasn’t worth it.

A characterful little albergue with friendly staff. The room and facilities were clean, and I’d recommend it for a comfortable night if you fancy treating yourself to a private room.

The whole place is immaculate and clearly looked after with a lot of care. Flowers decorate the inside and outside, and the kitchen, bathrooms, hall and reception all feel thoughtfully maintained. A peaceful, beautiful spot, run by an equally lovely woman.

This was the worst private room I’ve checked into during more than 30 days on the Camino, though the next worst was an Albergue in San Martin. The room smelled of mold, and the hangers in the closet were unusable because of the musty odor. My room had no window to the outside, only an opening onto the sun room where staff dry towels. I had to keep the shutter closed for privacy, but it wouldn’t lock, which felt like a serious safety issue. The shower kept spitting out hot water every 3-4 minutes, so I ended up rinsing the soap off with cold water while waiting. They gave me a filthy towel that left a musty smell, and I planned to shower again with my travel shower. The toilet had no seat, which made me wonder about female guests. The staff hung up on me when I asked about check-in, then didn’t apologize. Pilgrim backpacks were left unattended, and the building was left open. If I’d had another hostel room to move to, I would’ve packed up and left this filthy place until they learn to sanitize the linens and surfaces properly. There aren’t many alternatives, either. The town places were sold out, mostly with pilgrims, though I only saw one pilgrim at 3:30 pm. The other Albergue across the road wasn’t any better, and the monastery donativo albergue looked like a refuge shelter. This pension barely deserves three stars. Disrespectful staff and no standard of anything. Yuck!
