Club Excelsior II

A great complex, though it can be noisy depending on your neighbours. We had a ground-floor apartment opening onto the garden, with a terrace, chairs, a table, and two sunbeds. Inside were two lovely bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with twin beds, plus large closets. The beds were good and had fairly thick duvets, with no thinner option, which was a downside. The kitchen was well equipped with a fridge and small freezer, an oven, and a four-burner induction hob, but no microwave. There was also a dining table and chairs, a sofa, an armchair, and two low cupboards. The pool is large but not inviting, and it’s saltwater. Buses stop nearby, and there’s private parking inside the gates. We were told the water wasn’t recommended for drinking.

All the staff were excellent except for Wan. The apartment was much better than I expected for a seven-night stay, with everything you might need, even kitchen towel and washing-up liquid. There was no microwave, though, so we used the oven and hob instead. Every room had a window, and there was air conditioning in both the bedroom and lounge, plus internet TV. The beach is only five minutes away, and Yumbo Centre takes 15 minutes to reach. The bad part was Wan’s handling of a Sunday mix-up. When we came back to the hotel, another guest was clearly complaining and shouting in German. About 15 minutes later, Wan called our room and said we should have checked out on Saturday. I told him we were leaving Tuesday, but he insisted and then asked whether we wanted a taxi. I went down with our booking to show him. He said I’d misunderstood because of the language barrier, but didn’t apologize.

We liked this clean, nice three-star hotel. The apartments have a kitchen and balcony and everything you need, plus an outdoor pool and parking. The location is great for restaurants, clubs, and supermarkets, with the sand dunes five minutes away and the ocean 15 minutes away.

The pool area was lovely, with plenty of sunbeds and mattresses, though I was surprised that floats weren't allowed even when nobody was swimming. The apartments themselves had everything we needed and were spotless. They were cleaned nearly every day, with fresh towels and sheets regularly, and the friendly cleaners did a great job in the hallways too. Easily the cleanest place I've stayed. It's not far from the promenade, CITA centre or yumbo centre, and catching a bus is easy.
