Apartamentos Dorotea

Our group of eight had three apartments, and we were all pleasantly surprised by how nice they were. It's a great location, five minutes from the beach and ten from the Yumbo centre and Irish centre. The airport bus stop is also only a five-minute walk away, and the 66 goes straight to and from the airport for €3.00. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We knew beforehand this wasn't five-star accommodation. It has what you need, including two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and air conditioning that cooled the room well, though I imagine it might struggle in very hot weather since it wasn't especially powerful. There was some wear and tear, but overall it was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and there are three pools to lounge by, including one for adults only. For the price, it's one of the best options I've seen, and I'd highly recommend it. It's peaceful and quiet at night for a family trip, while the location works well for a party holiday with friends. Our group ranged from ages 30 to 37 and 60 to 64, and everyone enjoyed it. I'd happily return and recommend it.

The staff were kind, and when I reported a bathroom fault, they fixed it very quickly. The hotel is clean, well maintained and quite spacious, though the furniture is a little dated. The location is handy, around seven minutes from the beach, up to ten from Yumbo, and even closer to another shopping centre. There are plenty of shortcuts depending on your route. The kitchen has what you need to cook, but basics like oil and salt would have been useful. The living room is spacious, with a TV that's not smart and doesn't have many channels, though BBC1, itv and BBC2 are available in English. It sometimes slows down, possibly because of the internet. Wi-Fi is available, but the connection is poor and often drops out; restarting the modem doesn't fix it. The washing machine and dryer cost €4.00 and €3.00 respectively, and you'll need your own detergent. Someone comes to clean daily, even if you put a note on the door saying it's not necessary. Reception is open from 12:00 to 20:00, with a phone number on the door for help outside those hours. The pool is clean and well maintained, and there's a pool bar with reasonable prices, though I preferred going to the beach.

The pool was okay, though it could use better care, and the cleaners did come through every day. The apartment itself had mold in the shower and marks on the walls. It works if you only need somewhere to sleep and don't plan to spend much time there.

The staff were really accommodating during my week there, and the pool area was clean with lovely bar staff. It's a budget friendly place that does what you need: the rooms are dated, but clean, and breakfast was included and good for what was available. Maspalomas beach is a 5-10 minute walk, with plenty of supermarkets nearby. I'd happily come back. Thanks for a lovely week.
