Grupotel Las Pitas

Las Pitas is set a bit apart from the noisier resort areas, but it’s still only a two minute walk to the fun. We loved the peaceful, scenic setting and spotless resort. Our room was cleaned every day, and they even washed our pots. We had plenty to do there, with bars and entertainment split between Orquidea and Playa Feliz, and a wide choice of well cooked food. There are seven pools in all; we mostly used the two main ones at Orquidea. The kids loved the pool, shows and clubs. The food at the taverna was stunning, and as all inclusive guests we could eat there free once a week. We also tried El Sultan, where all inclusive guests get 25% off. The coffee shops had lovely ice cream and coffees, also 25% off for us. Across the road from Orquidea, La Plaza has shops and restaurants, and Bahia Grill had exceptional food and a good atmosphere. We were in Las Pitas, overlooking the rest of the resort. The beach was quiet, with pebbles until the tide went out and sand appeared. We hired a car from Dragos across the road for €75 for two days, and visited places along the south coast. We’d suggest Peurto del Mogan, which is absolutely stunning, and Melonares, a modern, lovely shopping outlet type place with a promenade and street artists at night. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we’ve changed next year’s holiday to come back. Staff were amazingly friendly and lovely.

We had requested a ground floor apartment because of our daughter’s disability, but were put at the furthest point, with steep hills and stairs to manage. It was exhausting for her and made getting our luggage in very difficult. Accessibility was a major problem throughout the stay. The pools felt far too small for such a huge hotel and were overcrowded every day. There wasn’t pool space allocated to different rooms or guests, unlike at other resorts we’ve visited. By 8am all the sun loungers were taken. Although the hotel says you can’t reserve them, people left towels on the loungers early and came back later in the day, so getting a place meant waking early and queuing. The food choice was very limited, especially for us self catering, and the quality was poor. It all tasted cheap and basic. There weren’t any cafes nearby, so we had to settle for what was on site or spend more to travel for decent food. Housekeeping was another frustration. Cleaners didn’t come for two days, not counting their two days off. If we asked them to wait just ten minutes while we got ready, they wouldn’t come back at all. That doesn’t feel like the service you’d expect from a hotel claiming four star standards. The hotel is listed as four star on the TUI website, but as two star on Google and its main website. We’ve stayed in much better three star hotels. We were left frustrated and disappointed, and won’t return. I’d urge people to read reviews carefully before booking.

My family and I got back to England last night after staying at the Gran Canarya group hotel Las Pitas. We stayed in Tres Vidas, up at the top by the terrace, which was a new kind of accommodation for me. We arrived late in the evening and at first felt a bit disappointed, having to struggle up the hill. Then we saw the panorama in the morning and forgot all about that 😊. Our rooms had ocean views, and we liked them a lot. It was so peaceful, the rooms were always clean, and the nature was stunning 😍. The staff were always smiling, friendly and helpful, even though they work so hard to keep everyone happy 😊. There was plenty to do around the resort, and we really enjoyed the shopping area and restaurants at La Plaza, just across the road from Orqidea. The food was delicious. Our little one loved the pool, shows and kids’ clubs. We really enjoyed the stay and plan to come back next year 😊.

We had our best Christmas, staying over Christmas and New Year. New Year’s Eve was amazing, and the staff were lovely, polite and so helpful. It’s a big, beautiful hotel. My two sons loved the pools and the food. There was plenty for everyone, including kids, adults and fussy eaters. The snack bar had good, fresh food and drinks close by. My room was basic but clean, and the staff went out of their way to help us.
