Hotel El Grifo

This traditional hacienda-style hotel is beautiful, and we had a lovely, quiet stay. The location worked well for exploring the island, and breakfast was good. We'll be back!

The restaurant alone is reason to stay at Caserio De Mozaga. The Italian chef kept surprising us, going beyond what we expected. The menu combines Spanish and Canary Islands recipes with an Italian touch, and although there's plenty to choose from, he was happy to suggest more. We eventually let him pick our orders instead of reading the menu. Everything we tried was amazing, especially the seafood "arroz meloso," which can hold its own against Valencia's, the off-menu octopus fresh pasta, the "croquetas," some of the best you'll find in Spain, and homemade fig ice cream, the best I've ever had. Breakfast is served in the restaurant, with a nice mix of foods. We loved the freshly made tortilla, the papaya juice the waiter suggested, and the Lavazza coffee maker. Don't expect huge quantities, though, as this is a farm with fewer than 10 rooms. The old country house is genuine, tastefully decorated, well maintained, and managed. It's right in the middle of Lanzarote, so driving around the island is convenient. The gardens are amazing, and the volcanic rocks around the property make it clear you're somewhere special. Inside, our room felt just right, balancing elegance and rustic style. It had a comfortable bed, storage, some private outdoor space, and a spacious bathroom equipped like a hotel room. Maria Luisa made our visit special. She was one of the most pleasant and dedicated hosts we've met while travelling. We booked by email, and she only asked for our travel details. There was no prepayment, deposit, or document sharing, just good manners and old-fashioned mutual trust. When we arrived, she welcomed us in her lovely office and spent at least 20 minutes giving us local tips for our four days in Lanzarote. She's passionate about her work and guests, speaks several languages fluently, and helped us put together a better plan than we could have managed with other sources. The staff were just as professional and kind. If you're planning a visit to Lanzarote, look no further. Booking directly with the property is best. I hope I can return and find everything as it is now.

A lovely location, welcoming people, fair prices, and a great breakfast. What more could you ask for? It's a good choice if you'd rather stay away from crowded tourist resorts, and it's well placed for exploring the island.

I had dinner here in December 2023 and would definitely recommend the place for a cosy, romantic meal. The food was very good, and the chef was really kind.
