Cala San Miguel Hotel Ibiza, Curio Collection by Hilton

The food was very nice, but pricey. Coffee cost £6-£10, and a medium-sized can of water was £6. The hotel looks good, though it didn’t feel like a 5-star stay. Service was quick when we were being charged, but otherwise drinks could take 20 minutes and room service an hour. There were splinters of glass in the carpet, and I cut my foot twice on the second day. The phone in the room was broken, the WiFi didn’t work, and the electricity kept cutting out. I raised this with the head of guest experience, but apart from a couple of messages, he didn’t do much to help. They promised a deep clean, but it never happened.

The hotel was cozy, in a quiet area, with comfortable rooms and good breakfasts. But the safety issues made our stay deeply disappointing. I left my Ray-Ban Meta (500€) smart glasses on a table by the elevator, right in front of a security camera, and I had a photo showing where they were. Staff wouldn’t let us see the camera footage, saying the camera had apparently malfunctioned. The glasses kept connecting by Bluetooth near the pool for over four hours, which suggested they were within 5-10 m. Management kept putting things off and wouldn’t call the police until I insisted. By then, the thief had already disappeared. We’d wanted to extend our stay, but instead we had to change hotels and end our vacation there. With security this important at a hotel of this level, we won’t return. Safety must come first. I hope others have a better experience, but ours was unacceptable.

The hotel is lovely, with nice rooms and grounds, and the staff were welcoming, helpful, and always ready to do more. I’ll return. On Wednesday night, I had dinner at La Sevina restaurant with my niece. JeanMarie gave us top-class service, helped us choose, and made the whole evening a delight. The seafood risotto was amazing, and there was a lovely wine selection. Excellent.

The food was good and the staff lovely, but the stay wasn’t what I’d hoped for given how much it costs. No A/C in May is a problem at a 5-star hotel. They kindly brought a fan, and that helped, but a fan shouldn’t have to stand in for air conditioning. It was quite noisy at night too. If you only get one holiday and are lucky enough to stay somewhere 5-star, that’s disappointing. Check all the reviews.
