The little Romanesque church is the heart of the village: weathered stone, plain arches, and a quiet weight of history. If the door happens to be open, step inside. It’s simple and austere, with a space that invites you to pause. There’s not much else here, and that’s part of the appeal. A few homes sit among fields and the dry hills of western Castilla; now and then you might hear a tractor or distant bells, or spot a cat at a window. The village is tiny and quiet, with its population dwindling. You don’t come for shops or attractions, but for the old stone and stillness. Abadía de San Martín feels like a pause in time, a peaceful place for anyone worn out by noise.

We stayed for a low season weekend, February 14-15, and everything was fine. The hotel is quiet and the people are friendly. The village is beautiful, though its narrow, picturesque streets make parking difficult. The parking area is a bit of a walk away, with a pleasant stroll along a Roman road, or you can leave the car just after arriving, before entering the village.

There are no common areas, and the bar was shut. The restroom by reception was dirty when we arrived, and supplies of soap, shower gel, and toilet paper were limited. Breakfast doesn't start until 9:00 AM, and apart from that, they leave you on your own all day. The rooms have very dim yellow lighting. We spent three nights listening to a dog bark nonstop and weren't able to change rooms.

It’s a pleasure to find a place like this in town. The service was impeccable, whether at the bar or serving lunch and dinner. Everyone was attentive and helpful. Definitely worth a stop.
