Barcelo Tenerife Royal Level

We came back after two years because it had been such a joy before, and booked Royal Level for the heated pool, which mattered for our two-year-old daughter. This time the water was too cold for her. Either the heating isn’t working or they aren’t warming it to a comfortable temperature. If having a heated pool matters for your holiday, I’d avoid booking here. The rooms are showing their age. I thought they might have been renovated since our last visit, but they haven’t, and a skirting tile had come right off the wall in our room. Restaurant staff seemed less attentive than they used to be. It’s a shame, we expected better when we returned.

We’d definitely like to come back. The hotel is very close to the airport, and although there’s no transfer, a taxi is around 20 euros. Royal Level was absolutely worth the money. I can be picky about all-inclusive food, but both breakfast and dinner were excellent for quality and service. The private pool access is a real highlight. Drinks came straight to our sunbed, and Nuria and Victor were so friendly and attentive. They were always there when we needed them and brought every order with a smile.

We chose this place because it was close to the airport and easy to reach. The main part of the stay was great, with a good choice of restaurants and reasonably good service. The attached photos are from the nature reserve, which is definitely worth a trip. The check-in was painful. It took 30 minutes from arriving to getting the room key, with five parties ahead of us and no effort from staff to explain the wait. We stood around for 21 minutes, then spent another ten filling in forms. The Royal Level reception was closed. A bad check-in can taint the start of a trip, and this was such a simple thing to get right. On our last evening, we ordered chicken and got a wonderful looking meal, but the meat was pink inside and undercooked. Nobody seemed too concerned. I wanted to give five stars, but the check-in experience brought it down.

We’ve just returned from a lovely stay as a couple, on a half-board basis. We didn’t spend time around the hotel or use the pools, but it was always nice coming back in the evenings. The food and service were excellent, and the Royal Level restaurant was a highlight. Thanks to Francesca, the customer care manager, for looking after us.
