We’d definitely come back. The casino next door is small, with just two roulette tables and one blackjack table, but we still had fun. The hotel’s easy to reach just off the motorway and works well for trips to Gibraltar. Our room had a private terrace, a smart TV, and a comfy bed. Parking was right outside, just below reception, and breakfast had a nice little selection. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

The Saturday buffet was great value at €8.90. It ran until 1600, with a help-yourself salad bar, a choice of main dish, a sweet or cake, coffee, and one drink. The place had a really relaxed feel, and everything seemed top quality. You need a passport to register, but there’s no charge. We lost 5€ on the machines!!

Evenings bring delicious tapas, and you can catch a show and stay overnight in the newly refurbished hotel, so there’s no need to drive home after a tipple or two. There’s plenty on offer and the layout is good. The lunchtime buffet has been suspended and replaced with table service, costing €5.90 for two plates and a drink.

Gibraltar is about 8 miles away, and a taxi to the border cost €25. We stayed in a junior suite, a fantastic room with all the amenities you’d expect.

The hotel staff were lovely and so helpful, which made a sharp contrast with the casino. We stayed at the hotel on site, but the casino was probably the worst I’ve ever been to. We’d forgotten our passports and had our driving licences, but still had to drive an hour to retrieve them. We played bingo and rude staff told us to keep quiet, even though a casino is supposed to be fun. The blackjack dealer was utterly rude too, and there was no table service for drinks. It was an awful night out, and I wouldn’t recommend the casino.
