Hostal Bahia

The service is what really stood out. Someone was available to help day and night, and the crew made our stay wonderful. For a city break in San Sebastian, Hostal Bahia is a great choice, especially in high season when the price for what you get is so good. Calling it a “Hostal” feels odd because the accommodation and service are hotel worthy. They deserve at least three stars. Thanks to Hostal Bahia and crew, we'll see you next time!

The staff's kindness is the reason I'm writing this. My partner and I had our phones and wallets stolen, leaving us stressed and without money on the last day. The staff offered help and even gave us food when we couldn't pay. We can't thank them enough. The rooms were tidy and nice, and the location was great, almost right on the beach and close to the old town.

Staff got the job done, though they didn't seem especially patient or keen to go out of their way, and limited Spanish like mine can make things harder. We also couldn't leave our bags before or after checkout. If you're driving, parking is a short walk away, but with luggage it can feel like quite a trek. Street noise was surprisingly noticeable, even on a weeknight. The rooms are small and bare, but that's reasonable for a two star place. The toiletries are poor quality, especially the toilet paper. On the plus side, rooms were available, prices were fairly low for the area, and the location is good. Breakfast seemed pretty standard for a continental one: decent bread and croissants with jam and butter, tea, coffee, and juice, but no yogurt or anything like that.

The location was good, the place fairly clean, and the staff pleasant. Those were about the only positives. We paid far too much for a stay that was awful. Noise was a major problem. The hotel is on a busy street with poor sound insulation, so we heard traffic and our neighbours, including every pipe when they took a late night bath. It was extremely loud and made sleeping difficult. The bed was small, and both the mattress and pillows were uncomfortable. Breakfast was only so-so and very limited. The bread wasn't fresh and was so hard it could break your teeth. The croissant and coffee were okay, at least. For the amount charged per night, this was unacceptable. I wouldn't stay again or recommend it unless prices came down dramatically.
