Hotel Ezeiza

I found the cafeteria and restaurant at Hotel Ezeiza in San Sebastián really disappointing. The place looked shabby and wasn’t very clean, with cheap plastic chairs and staff who seemed either inexperienced or in a bad mood. Dinner hours were very limited: the kitchen opened at 8 p.m. and closed by 9. The menu was just a crumpled sheet in an old plastic folder, and the food choices felt more suited to a run-down bus station than San Sebastián. It was a regrettable meal. There’s good service if you walk 300m into Matia Road.

We had lunch at the cafeteria, not a hotel stay. It’s a simple, family-style restaurant, and the prices were good: 18 euros 50 for three courses, with drinks reasonably priced too. We tried the tuna and tomato salad, courgette soup with sesame oil, hake in mushroom sauce, coquille saint jacques, cheesecake and tiramisu. Everything tasted good. The vegetable portions with the mains were small, but delicious, including thick-cut fresh fried potato crisps and a potato, onion and tomato mix. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the chef came to check on our food. The decor isn’t anything special, but it’s a good spot for a tasty home-cooked meal.

We picked the restaurant because it had a good range of fish and salads, plus a vegan choice. The vegan burger was made with spinach and chickpeas, and came with grilled courgette and aubergine and guacamole sauce. A decent option if you're on that end of town and want vegan food.

We both ordered veggie burgers with fries. The portions were big and the food was pretty tasty, and the restaurant was nice, right across from a beautiful beach. But we waited quite a while. I had to get the menus myself, then later ask someone if we could order drinks.
