Pension Peñaflorida

Our weekend away was completely ruined by how this booking was handled. We never stayed at the pension: they took our money, then apparently sold the room to someone else as well, so it seems they were paid twice. Getting our money back took six months. We thought we had cancelled, and heard nothing more until nine months later, on the booking date, when they asked where we were. There was no message in the week or two beforehand about where to go or what to expect, which is standard practice elsewhere. The lack of a proper system for communicating with guests seems to work in their favour. Shame on you, Pension Florida. Reading the other negative reviews, I can see this has happened to others too. I hope they make their system more honest, though somehow I doubt it. They really need to act more professionally and put processes in place to stop anyone else going through this.

Everything is within walking distance, and the staff were excellent. The location really is the standout. We stayed in early October 2025, when the building’s A/C had been switched off for the season, and the room got too hot to sleep comfortably. I’d have rated it five stars if the room temperature had been manageable.

The woman running the place was really helpful, and I loved my room and its nice balcony view. If you’re doing the city marathon, this location is hard to beat: I’d never been so close to the start, and the finish was very close too. Knowing that made me feel at ease. I enjoyed my stay a lot and would book the same hotel again if I did the race another time.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the location was quieter than the old town while still just a few minutes’ walk away. Our little balcony looked out toward a nearby park, with the ocean just a block away, which was pretty cool. The rooms are on the small side, but there was plenty of room for us. Clean, modern, and a great place to stay in San Sebastian.
