Uba Hostel

We followed the staff’s instructions, checked out right away, and had to find somewhere else for our family of 5 at the last minute. A week later, Booking.com told us the hostel was refusing to authorize our refund for a stay of less than 10 minutes. We’d booked a family room for 5 people just a day ahead, but couldn’t stay in it. The room smelled overwhelmingly of sweat, the beds still had hair on them, and it looked nothing like the photos. Our view was just the back of the hostel. When we raised this immediately, staff weren’t helpful and told us to “follow the procedure on Booking.com” to cancel. They gave us a dirty, sub-standard room and are keeping our money. I highly recommend steering clear. They showed no regard for cleanliness or basic customer service.

A cheap bed for a last-minute booking, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a late-night check-in. Things were pretty disorganized, the rooms were hot with no ventilation, and there were no curtains for privacy.

It’s fairly cheap, and a bed is a bed. Still, the hostel feels like someone gathered all the pieces of a nice hostel and stuck them together without thinking about how they’d work as a whole, or whether people would want to visit.

The staff were really kind, and the surroundings are very green. We added a day to our stay, but that was because of San Sebastian, not the hostel. It’s the cheapest hostell, so it’s alright for that, though it’s out of the way and seems to get little attention beyond keeping it clean. Everything costs extra, from towel rental to 3 euros for kitchen access.
