allsun App.-Hotel Orient Beach

This is an ALLSUN hotel owned by Alltours, so expect around 90% German-speaking families. Most things, including the animation, are in German. Still, people are generally nice, the place is run efficiently, and you won’t see drunk people in the pool at 11 am. It has 240 rooms, and occupancy was about 60% during my stay, so the pool and restaurant had plenty of space. I’m not sure how that feels in peak season. The rooms are 40m2, with a separate bedroom, balcony, fridge, and dining table, almost the size of an apartment. The beach is a five-minute walk away, with clear water and a lifeguard. You can rent either two cushioned beds with a fixed umbrella and two drinks for 35 euro, or two cheaper-looking beds and an umbrella for 16. The large pool uses what I think is active oxygen cleaning rather than chloride. I hate chloride on my skin, and that pool alone made this a four-star stay for me rather than three. For the price, the quality is strong. We stayed 12 days, and the buffet was generally good, though naturally not like a meal at a small Spanish restaurant. The hotel is relatively cheap compared with others without giving up much quality. There are downsides. It isn’t quite all-inclusive, more full pension with free drinks. There’s little afternoon food beyond a piece of cake and a small sandwich, nothing after the main restaurant closes, and lockers and replacement beach towels cost extra. The place feels slightly run down beside the sharper-looking, much pricier four-star hotels nearby. The coffee was dreadful. Spain has good coffee everywhere, even little beach bars, but here the old-fashioned machines made such bad cups that I spent over 100 euros during the holiday going out for decent coffee. The rain shower looked nice but was fixed at 180 height, so I bumped my head every time. I watched several shows over 12 days, and apart from two outside performers they were simply bad. I know you can’t expect Cirque du Soleil, but the Michael Jackson act was so poor we wondered if they’d ever done it before. I understand staff have to point out the corona rules. Some Spanish staff did it politely with a smile, but several German members of the animation team were rude. We nicknamed them the SS-boy and the Gestapo girl, and you know who you are. They had no service with a smile. I rented a car, and the hotel says it has no parking, suggesting the neighborhood instead. I wouldn’t recommend parking there, since people pass your car every 30 seconds and damage seems likely. I parked behind the hotel in a space belonging to another hotel, from which you can easily get back to this one.

The activities for kids and adults were great, and so were the service, food, and location. It’s a good hotel overall, especially if you opt for all-inclusive.

We kept asking to move rooms, but were always told there weren’t any available. Our room was above the kitchen in the third house, and the ventilation and cooling units were so loud at night it felt like sleeping next to a parked lorry with its engine running. The family got only a few hours of sleep each night, and the holiday was completely ruined. We won’t book this hotel again.
