We’ve had a mostly great ten-day stay and are checking out today. The location is excellent, with everything close by, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Housekeeping was caring and thorough, cleaning every day and even folding our clothes and tidying up. The buffet was consistently amazing, with fresh food, plenty of choice for meat eaters, vegetarians, fruit and desserts, and everything kept replenished. They changed the menu daily, and we never felt a need to eat elsewhere. The outdoor area is spacious enough not to feel crowded even at full capacity, and we used the sauna and indoor pool every day. Taken together, we had a wonderful time and would rate most of the stay 5/5. A few room and atmosphere details weren’t ideal. Some rooms have short fabric shower curtains, which can flood the bathroom and create a risk of tripping. We immediately asked for a room with a glass shower panel and were quickly given a satisfactory one. The beds use two mattresses pushed together rather than one king mattress. The ceiling fan was very noisy and didn’t seem to work despite spinning. We didn’t like the taste of the room water, so bought bottled water for the night. Pool and common-area music was too loud and punchy for relaxing, almost rave-like. There’s no espresso or manually made coffee, only automatic machines that make pretty bad coffee. The main reason for our four-star rating was the checkout problem on our last day. Our flight was at 22:15, and when booking we told the hotel we’d need the room that day. They quoted 25.00 Euro to stay until 14:00, plus 10.00 Euro for each extra hour, which we accepted. Two days before checkout we checked with reception and were told it was fine and they were expecting us to stay late. The night before, staff said things looked good and we could stay until 18:00, but asked us to confirm in the morning. We did, expecting to keep the room until six, only to be told the hotel was full and we had to leave by noon. When I explained we had agreed this in advance for our late flight, I got no understanding, just “I don’t know what to say, we are at capacity.” It made me feel like we weren’t valued, as filling the room mattered more than sending us away happy. We’d planned to come back next year, but now we’ll probably look for somewhere that lets us keep a room while waiting for a late flight, rather than making us wander around town for ten hours before a tiring flight and long drive home.

I can’t work out why this resort has only four Google stars. My fiancée and I were delighted with the stay. The beach is right beside the hotel, as close as it can possibly be, and our room was well equipped, air-conditioned, and had very comfortable beds. What impressed us most was how spotless everything stayed. They cleaned the loungers, toilets, and even the restaurant windows every day, quickly and discreetly without getting in the way. One thing that may matter to some visitors is the very strong German focus. Everything was labelled in Spanish and German, many staff spoke German, and the few activities were aimed at German guests. We live near the German border and are used to that, and we got by perfectly well, but other non-German holidaymakers should know. Dinner was the only part that fell short. Breakfast had the usual good hotel range of sweet and savoury choices, and lunch was similar but perhaps less tasty. Dinner slipped another notch. I’d give the food and drink four stars, while everything else was clearly five. I can’t recommend Allsun Sumba enough. Thanks to all the staff for a lovely stay!

I spent eight lovely days here with my family, and most things were good. But I didn’t feel comfortable or free because of some German guests, and there was a lot of racism. The hotel felt like being in Germany, and the parties and evening outings were in German too. I spoke to management because I felt harassed, but they didn’t seem to care. A German member of the reception team treated me very badly and wouldn’t help when I asked in English. There’s a Moroccan woman at reception who was always kind and helpful, and I want to thank her. If racism bothers you, don’t come here. This was very bad.

My fiancée and I enjoyed our stay, and for the price I’d give it 7/10. Just keep in mind that it may not suit everyone. There’s lots for children to do, but also lots of kids around, so it’s not the best choice for an older couple wanting quiet. Most things are in German, from the room TV and activities to many staff and guests. We didn’t mind, since everyone was nice, though some people might find it bothersome. The rooms were cleaned daily. There’s a pleasant rooftop lounge with nice amenities, plus a small spa, volleyball net, table tennis, and scooters for rent. Dinner had plenty of options, but it was often bland or cold, so we ate out every night. Breakfast was pretty okay, as were the snacks. Cocktails tasted good as refreshers, but barely had any alcohol.

We landed at 2:00 am, and after check-in there was a little breakfast waiting. That may seem like a small thing, but at two in the morning, chapeau. German is everywhere in the hotel, but that didn’t bother us. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Our room on the fourth floor, the fifth by US counting, was like a small apartment, with a separate living area and bedroom, two balconies, and a mini kitchen with a freezer and microwave. I can only speak for our room. The walk-in bathroom shower was lovely, with dependable hot water in the morning and the rain-shower I like. The boxspring bed was comfortable and high, easy to get in and out of, especially useful for older people or those with difficulties. The air conditioning worked well and didn’t disturb our sleep. Food was great, with a bit of a German taste, lots of variety through the day and across days, and vegan choices too. Lunch and dinner options could swap around. As someone with lactose intolerance I ate without trouble, and as a type 2 diabetic I also had no issues, since Germans don’t use much sugar. The pool is small, but it’s a short 50-meter walk to the beach and sea. For the price, compared with nearby options, this place is great.
