CM Castell de Mar Hotel

The food was excellent, and we appreciated having some halal meat options. Still, it’s confusing that the other labels are in English, German and Spanish, while “halal” appears only in Arabic, which doesn’t help guests who can’t read Arabic. We were returning guests at CM Castell de Mar and had been looking forward to coming back, but this visit fell short of the last one. We’d contacted the hotel beforehand and received a kind, professional reply, yet things felt disconnected when we arrived. The service felt impersonal, and the follow-up wasn’t what we expected. Our room was noisy, right above reception and near the bus stops where tourist coaches came and went. The balcony door didn’t close tightly, leaving gaps at the sides that let noise in even at night. There was a strong chemical smell in the bathroom, visible mold, and worn towels with holes. When we raised these issues, the reply felt generic and focused on “next time,” even though we were still staying there. It’s disappointing to see a hotel with so much potential and a great restaurant lose its personal touch and attention to detail. With more care for guest feedback and better maintenance, Castell de Mar could easily be one of the best hotels in Cala Millor again.

Being close to the sea was one good thing about this hotel. Otherwise, the price didn’t match the quality, and I wouldn’t recommend it. It doesn’t meet 4-star standards in my view, 3 stars at most. We arrived at 10 a.m. and reception said we’d be checked in at 11 and called when the room was ready. No one called. We waited until 2 p.m. to get the room. I understand that the official check-in starts at 2, but if they’d said early check-in wasn’t possible, we could have planned our time instead of waiting for a promised call. The staff seemed insincere, smiling and saying one thing without following through. The hotel is old, and you can smell that in the corridors. There was no kettle, tea cups, coffee, tea or sugar in the room. We had to borrow a kettle with a €15 deposit. The restaurant terrace was supposed to have a lovely sea view, but in the morning it was closed off with old yellow mesh blinds, so that’s what you faced instead. Our room had a partial sea view, but the neighboring hotel was only about 10 meters away, and from the balcony we mostly saw people on their balconies.

The view, palm trees and turquoise ocean made this a wonderful hotel, and I felt it was good for women traveling alone too. There were nice evening shows, a lovely pool, and I appreciated that nobody reserved sunbeds. After 18:00 the spa was almost empty, since kids are only allowed until then, though it stays open until 22:00. It has an indoor whirlpool, pool, sauna and hammam. The hammam could use some essential oil ;). The gym was good too, and I had it to myself. The hotel did a great job with vegan and gluten-free food. I only had breakfast, and they gave me two sheets of options, one vegan and one gluten-free menu. The buffet items were labeled as well. There was a great variety of vegetables, fruit, soy yogurt, plant-based milks and fruit juices. I also enjoyed being able to eat breakfast outside. I can highly recommend this place. Gracias!

After a night flight, we arrived with our small hypoallergenic dog. Google clearly said pets were allowed, but the hotel told us dogs weren’t permitted and immediately asked us to leave. They said they weren’t responsible for the information about their property on Google. We got no apology or compensation, even though we had to book another hotel at short notice and pay extra. After a long journey, being treated that way was extremely unpleasant. I found the attitude very disappointing and not customer-oriented at all.
