Protur Safari Park Aparthotel

The location worked well, with shops and a bus stop by the beach, about a 15-minute walk away, and the airport just under an hour away. Our room was roomy and had a nice pool view. The €46 room tax was for the two of us for seven nights. My mum and I came as two adults, and it soon felt like the hotel was mostly aimed at couples with young children. We still had a good time, though we sometimes felt out of place. Dinner was pleasant, with a decent range of food and soft drinks, and the alcoholic drinks were nice but rather weak. There are themed restaurants you can book for dinner at no extra cost. We went to one almost every night, and it was a nice, quieter change. We were sent to the other of the two dining halls a few times, but nobody explained why. Two waiters in the main dining area also made us uncomfortable, as they seemed to look at us and laugh. I might return if I had children of my own, but otherwise I wouldn't.

The apartment room was a real plus: plain, but spacious and well laid out, with a separate bedroom for our three-year-old. The hotel looks lovely from outside, and the walk to the beach took about 5-10 minutes. We enjoyed the buffet, though after a few days I'd had enough of it. The place was really clean and the staff were very friendly. The all-inclusive package was less appealing. The included cocktails were few and premixed, and anything else, or a nice beer, cost 5 euros or more. I didn't drink much, so it wasn't a major issue for me. The pool music was loud euro dance, which felt odd for a crowd made up mostly of young families and grandparents. The four or five restaurants sounded like a selling point, but they're small and shared among several Protur hotels. Getting a reservation, especially at the two popular places, was very difficult. You had to be on the hotel Wi-Fi, and bookings opened at 2 pm, so we had to hang around in the middle of the day hoping to get one. We succeeded about a quarter of the time. Such a waste of a day. I'd return, probably on bed and breakfast rather than all inclusive. I think I'd enjoy the meals and drinks more if I went out.

The hotel works well in good weather, but a rainy day with children would put me off returning. The indoor pool is tiny and couldn't handle the number of guests. Outside, the coverings provide shade but don't keep the rain off, so the patios for food and drinks can't be used. Everyone then crowds indoors, where the restaurants are too small, and the entertainment space can't fit everyone either. The rooms are modern and spacious, service was pretty good, and the flat paths are pram-friendly. It's about a 10-minute walk to the beach, which was fine. I'd love to come back in summer, but I wouldn't want to risk it in bad weather. I'd call it a nice three-star hotel, just not equipped for rainy days with kids.

Everything was so clean and tidy, and the food was delicious. The staff were all friendly, too. We had an amazing holiday and are already looking forward to returning, seeing everyone again and exploring more of the fantastic island of Mallorca. The beds were quite uncomfortable, and the mini golf course could use a refresh. Some parts looked old, and the greens had worn away in places.
